Marie Curie visit to the Bureau of Standards in 1921

November 22nd, 4:00pm–5:00pm

Online

In May of 1921 Marie Curie made her first visit to the United States. The purpose of her visit was to receive a gram of radium that was to be presented to her in a White House ceremony by President Warren Harding. The extraordinary cost of the radium, $100,000, had been raised by a national Marie Curie Fund with individual donations from the Women of America. The talk will describe the radium calibrations of the Radium Section at NBS in 1914 –1921 and Marie Curie's experiences.
