New Directors, New Collaborations at the Wisconsin Primate Center in 2025

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) has two employee updates for the New Year.

Saverio “Buddy” Capuano took over as Interim Director of the Center in January. Buddy is a long-time employee of the Primate Center, serving as Associate Director of Animal Services and the Attending Veterinarian. Buddy will serve as Interim Director as the Center searches for a new director to replace Jon Levine, who retired after 14 years.

When asked, “What are you most excited for in the coming year?”

Buddy said, “Our continuing initiatives to treat, prevent, and cure a variety of infectious diseases. I am also excited about our research around precision medicine, stem cell therapies, and genome sequencing and our new collaborations with the Waisman Center to develop animal and in vitro models of autism.”

Working alongside Buddy in the new role of Associate Director of Research Strategy and Innovation, is Ari Rosenberg, PhD. Ari is also Associate Professor of Neuroscience at UW-Madison. Ari aims to make new collaborations not only across campus, but across the nation, to highlight both the research and funding opportunities available at the Primate Center.

“We want more scientists across the nation to achieve their goals in advancing human health through research made possible by the WNPRC’s scientific working groups, Pilot Program, and research services,” he said. The Pilot Research Awards Program is for studies involving the Center’s working group focus areas: regenerative and reproductive medicine, global infectious disease, neuroscience, and energy, metabolism and chronic disease. Application information for the 2025 Awards is coming soon. Follow the Primate Center on Facebook, X, and LinkedIn for the latest news, research, and updates.
