Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Recruitments

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education is recruiting for two Associate Vice Chancellors, the AVC for Research in the Arts and Humanities, and the AVC for Research in the Biological Sciences. Official Title: ASSOC VICE CHANCELLOR(A42NN)

Degree and area of specialization: Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related discipline.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: Must currently hold tenured faculty appointment at UW-Madison and have a record demonstrating excellence in research and scholarly publications. Administrative experience desirable.

Principal duties: The Associate Vice Chancellor is an administrative position that reports to the VCRGE and has responsibility for developing and implementing strategies related to faculty, staff, and research, and for monitoring their outcomes. The Associate Vice Chancellor will work closely with the VCRGE in setting and executing institutional priorities. The Associate Vice Chancellor has responsibility for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that seek to maintain and enhance excellence in research and graduate   education.

The Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for the coordination of the biological sciences component of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education (OVCRGE) WARF gift including faculty recruitment, retention, and out of season funding requests. This position is also responsible for serving as the point of contact for issues that arise in the biological sciences centers under the OVCRGE portfolio. The Associate Vice Chancellor will also advise the VCRGE on divisional research   issues.

Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.

Appointment percent: 50%

Anticipated begin date: September 1, 2018

The Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for the coordination of the arts and humanities component of the WARF gift including faculty recruitment, retention, and out of season funding requests. This position is also responsible for serving as the point of contact for issues that arise in the arts and humanities centers under the VCRGE portfolio. (20%)

In addition, this position serves a dual role, providing advice and input to the Dean of the Graduate School regarding programmatic and graduate education issues. The position will participate in program review considerations for arts and humanities programs and will assist with other Graduate School initiatives related to the arts and humanities. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: direct interaction with graduate program leadership in the arts and humanities, serve as a member of the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee, participate in Graduate School leadership meetings, and chair the arts and humanities component of the annual Graduate Student Support Competition. (10%)
