Institutional Nominations and Internal Competitions

Sponsors may limit the number of applications that an institution may submit for a particular grant program.  The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) will coordinate these submissions for research opportunities by determining whether multiple candidates wish to apply and organizing an impartial review to select the most competitive proposal(s) to send forward to the funding agency. Coordination of opportunities that have narrow target research areas will be delegated to the School/College or Department involved in those areas. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research encourages applications from all interested candidates, especially from those of underrepresented backgrounds and women.

Given the competitive nature of selecting the limited number of UW-Madison submissions, the OVCR is often forced to choose from several worthy submissions. Therefore, a decision to not advance a specific application does not necessarily reflect any specific deficits of that application. Faculty whose nominations are not selected to advance are encouraged to work with their mentoring committee to review their nomination packages along with the program requirements and priorities, with the goal of fine tuning the nomination for future submission.
