SMPH Collaborate

An event series for investigators, researchers, and learners

All individuals from across campus involved in research — including undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, research staff, and faculty — are invited to attend SMPH Collaborate, an event series from the SMPH Office of Basic Research, Biotechnology and Graduate Studies. SMPH Collaborate fosters connections among investigators, researchers, and learners through the sharing of research discoveries and building of community. Registration is strongly encouraged.

FULL – Class: Effigy Mounds of Southern Wisconsin

Arboretum

November 8th, 1:00pm–4:00pm

Meet at Visitor Center, UW–Madison Arboretum

Earthen mounds with conical, linear, and animal shapes were built by Native people in southern Wisconsin. The effigy mound groups at the Arboretum are among the few remaining of hundreds built in our area more than 1,000 years ago. Learn about the mounds, the people who created them, and their environment. Indoor class, with optional outdoor walk if weather permits. Instructor: Paul Borowsky, Arboretum naturalist. Fee: $30. Register by November 4. Meet at the Visitor Center. CLASS IS FULL.

Nature Hike

Learn about the land, plants, animals, fungi, phenology, and ecology. Geared for adults, this walk may cover sloping terrain. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and come prepared for weather. Walks canceled for unsafe conditions. Free, no registration required. Meet at the Visitor Center.

The Wild West of AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an ever-evolving, and often overwhelming topic. This workshop will give a high-level, critical overview of generative AI tools within the context of health sciences research. Specifically, the workshop will examine the benefits and limitations of using AI for searching and summarizing the literature, conducting systematic reviews, and writing manuscripts.

Startup Foundations: From Problems to Possibilities

Nailing Your Value Proposition

Learn how to define problems, talk to customers, and craft value. This three-part workshop is for researchers, faculty, students, and staff who want to explore entrepreneurship. Each session stands alone — attend one or join all three to build your skills and confidence in moving ideas from concept to impact. Registration requested.

Family Nature Program: Patterns in Nature

Systematic Review Essentials: Preparing for Success
