Facilitating Community-Based Research Partnerships in Wisconsin: https://research.wisc.edu/facilitating-community-based-research-partnerships-in-wisconsin/

The Facilitating Community-Based Research Partnerships in Wisconsin initiative is intended to support existing collaborations, foster new partnerships, and strengthen relationships between campus researchers and communities. The initiative will provide resources for projects that include in the research team individuals that are members of the communities being studied. It aims to increase campus-community engagement, build trust and bolster collaboration between campus and communities, and facilitate thoughtful and community-informed practices in all stages of the research process. These activities are intended to further the Wisconsin Idea.

Initiative to Foster New Large Research Grant Proposals (Round 2): https://research.wisc.edu/initiative-to-foster-new-large-research-grant-proposals-round-2/

Competing for large (greater than $10 million) research grants is challenging due to intense competition, complex application processes, and limited resources for preparing proposals. This initiative provides principal investigators (PIs) with seed money for preparing large research grant proposals (at least $10 million over 5 years) in response to a specific call from external funding agencies/organizations (e.g., NSF Engines program, USDA NIFA, NIH Brain Initiative, multi-PI Centers, DOD, DOE, NSF, NASA). A lower grant threshold amount will be considered for grant proposals to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), or the Social, Behavioral & Economic Sciences (SBE) Directorate at NSF (see FAQs for more information). The initiative is supported by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for (OVCR).

Research Forward (5): https://research.wisc.edu/research-forward-2025/

Research Forward seeks to support collaborative, multidisciplinary, multi-investigator research projects that are high-risk, high-impact and transformative. It seeks to fund projects that are led by PIs with an established track record of securing and successfully managing external research awards, and that have the potential to open up pathbreaking new research avenues or fundamentally transform a field of study.

Research Forward seeks projects that are foundational and likely to be competitive for a high level of external funding commensurate with a bold research agenda. Collaborative research proposals are welcome from within any of the four divisions (Arts & Humanities, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences), or from cross-divisional collaborations. Successful Research Forward proposals will include an integrated and compelling plan for establishing and maintaining an equitable and inclusive research effort.

Research Forward awards will support development of research concepts that are not yet competitive for external funding. It does not fund support for external proposals submitted before or during the Research Forward competition process nor does it supplement existing grants.

UW Distinguished Research Fellows Program: https://research.wisc.edu/uw-distinguished-research-fellows-program/

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is pleased to announce the UW Distinguished Research Fellows Program (DRFP), designed to support outstanding postdoctoral trainees in interdisciplinary research areas related to RISE-AI, RISE-THRIVE, and RISE-EARTH. UW–Madison tenured faculty, tenure-track faculty and researchers with permanent PI status are invited to apply and nominate outstanding postdoctoral candidates for this fellowship. The intent of this program is to support exceptional emerging scholars in collaborative research that spans two distinct units (schools, colleges, centers) at UW–Madison, and that synergizes distinct disciplinary approaches. Fellowships are designed to guide new research efforts beyond traditional disciplinary lines to answer important and impactful challenges facing society. Applications are expected to incorporate exceptional mentorship plans.
