Revitalizing a Workhorse High-Sensitivity 500MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer

Description:
The replacement of a heavily used 37-year-old magnet with a newer refurbished shielded 500MHz superconducting magnet and autosampler will provide researchers with an up-to-date Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) system. The magnet being replaced is one of the oldest still in service. The newer magnets are much better shielded, which makes them safer to use, and better insulated, which reduces liquid cryogen consumption.

The Chemistry Department’s Magnetic Resonance Facility supports a broad range of chemical research. The facility has six NMR spectrometers located in the Paul Bender Chemistry Instrument Center.
