2026-2027 Research Security Training Launched in Workday LMS
To support compliance with evolving federal research security requirements, the University has launched a new Research Security Training module in the Workday Learning Management System (LMS).
The training provides an overview of key research security requirements, including disclosure obligations, international collaborations, and safeguarding federally funded research. It is required for all covered individuals involved in federally funded research, including principal investigators, senior/key personnel, and others as applicable.
UW–Madison employees identified as covered individuals on a federal proposal will be assigned the training in Workday. The training must be completed within 12 months prior to the submission of a federal proposal. Failure to complete the training may delay proposal submission. In addition, any newly designated covered individual added to an active federal award must complete the training prior to commencing work on the award.
How to access
- Log in to Workday
- Navigate to Learning in the “Personal” menu
- Navigate to “My Learning”
- Search for “Research Security Training”
This training is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to align with federal expectations (including NSPM-33 and agency-specific requirements) and to ensure our research community is well-positioned to engage in global collaborations responsibly.
We encourage units to communicate this requirement broadly and to ensure that covered individuals complete the training well in advance of proposal deadlines or as soon as a covered individual is added to an award.
If you have questions about the training requirement or applicability, please contact RSEC at rsec@research.wisc.edu.
Thank you for helping to ensure compliance with this requirement and for your continued commitment to research integrity and security.
