Research Cores Directory Improvements
We have made several updates to the Research Cores Directory in recent months. The most noticeable changes include:
- Photos and video introductions (cores, resources, and services)
- Virtual tours (cores)
- Increased character limits for descriptions (cores, resources, and services)
- Shared or “main” core phone numbers (cores)
Explore these new features and make sure your contacts (directors, customer contacts, and directory editors) are up to date. Contact Ryan Pingel (rpingel@wisc.edu) with questions.
Research Bazaar Registration is Open
UW–Madison’s Data Science Hub is hosting the 5th annual Research Bazaar on February 7 and 8, 2024, at the Discovery Building. With an overarching theme of Data in Action, the Research Bazaar is a place to build community and technical know-how. Understanding data and how analytical methods can be deployed in different fields and industries holds the potential to inspire new research directions and innovation, strengthen communities and public institutions, and improve overall quality of life for everyone. View the full schedule and register by January 30 at https://datascience.wisc.edu/data-science-research-bazaar/.
Research Core Revitalization Program Round 3
The proposal window is open for the third round of the Research Core Revitalization Program (RCRP)—an important initiative that supports the upgrade, replacement, or duplication of heavily used shared research resources. Applications are due Friday, February 23, 2024, by 4:30 p.m. The RCRP is funded by the OVCR with support from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF). Each award will be in the range of $100,000 to $500,000 for direct costs. For additional information and instructions on how to apply, see https://research.wisc.edu/research-core-revitalization-program-3/.
Core Acknowledgement Resources
Ensure your core facilities or the cores supporting your research are properly acknowledged for their contributions.
- UW Libraries provides guidance on improving acknowledgement accuracy and quality, searching the literature for acknowledgements, and associating NIH grants to papers in PubMed.
- A Cytometry Part A article provides “a guideline for the appropriate recognition of shared resource laboratories in publication.”

Shout-outs
Want to thank or recognize a core staff member who went above and beyond to support your research or the research of a core user? Email Ryan Pingel (rpingel@wisc.edu) with the individual’s name and a sentence or two about why they deserve a shout-out. Shout-outs will also be posted at https://research.wisc.edu/research-cores/research-resources-reporter/.
