UW–Madison Sustainability Symposium

Oct. 23, 1–5:30 p.m.

This no-cost event provides a space to share sustainability research, generate ideas, and inspire collaboration. This year’s theme is AI and sustainability. All students, staff, and faculty are welcome at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. The event will feature lightning talks, poster sessions, and a keynote by Dr. Sara Beery on AI and sustainability.

The event is hosted in partnership with the Data Science Institute, Facilities Planning & Management, the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, University Lectures and the UW Environmental Awareness Fund.

BadgerConnect Research Services Fair

Oct. 23, 12:15 to 4:30 p.m. in the Health Sciences Learning Center Atrium

Hosted by the UW Carbone Cancer Center, UW School of Medicine and Public Health, and UW Biotechnology Center, this free fair joins UW research services with industry partners to showcase services provided to UW–Madison researchers. Learn about innovative technologies and discuss projects with life sciences research services to see how your research can be supported and enhanced. This event features a research talk by Dr. Jeremy Kratz (assistant professor, UW Department of Medicine), a panel discussion, and a networking reception, along with pre-recorded flash talks and tutorials posted online – all aimed to foster collaborations and take your research to the next level.

IRB for Beginners Workshop

The UW–Madison IRBs office is hosting an IRB for Beginners Workshop (online via Zoom). (Register here).

This workshop offers an overview of the IRB process and review procedures, including information on required training, steps to completing and submitting an IRB application with supporting documents, resources you can consult for more information, the IRB’s overall review process, and some tips and tricks to avoid delays in approval.

Big Ten Academic Alliance – Responsible Conduct of Research Collaborative Conference

Topic: “Promises and Pitfalls of AI for Research and Scholarship Integrity”

This free conference is open to any individuals involved in research at higher education institutions. It is targeted to research integrity practitioners, educators, administrators, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars.

Participate in a conversation about generative artificial intelligence (AI) and the impacts on research and scholarly activities.  This virtual conference will address some of these fundamental questions:

• What is generative AI?

• What are the ethical implications of using AI in research and scholarship?

• Why is protecting technology in the age of AI critical?

• How might AI affect academic publishing, peer review and the dissemination of knowledge?

This conference welcomes those interested in Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) education, including research integrity leaders, educators, research administrators, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars.
