Partnering with WARF

The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) acts as the technology transfer entity for the University of Wisconsin–Madison, patenting inventions arising from university research, licensing the technologies to companies, and returning the licensing income to the UW–Madison to further support research. WARF partners with the University throughout the research process including:

  • Working with campus negotiators to arrive at acceptable intellectual property language in research agreements
  • Advising researchers on best practices to follow when publishing or otherwise communicating their research to protect emerging intellectual property
  • Providing, free of charge, patenting and licensing services for inventions, copyrights and other intellectual property that has the potential to be commercially developed
  • Advising faculty entrepreneurs seeking to start a company with UW–Madison technology licensed from WARF
