"Getting Older and Getting By With SSI" - Dr Callie Freitag

Household Finance Seminar Series - Nancy Nicholas Hall Room 1199 (Wisconsin Idea Room)

February 3rd, 1:15pm–2:15pm

1199 Nancy Nicholas Hall

Low-income older adults who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are expected to live on a maximum of $967 per month (in 2025). Program rules significantly constrain SSI recipients' ability to supplement their income, maintain savings, or share resources with others. This research uses new, nationally representative secondary qualitative interview data from the American Voices Project to ask how low-income adults manage getting older and getting by on SSI.
