This project acquires digital archives of some major Russian-language, Soviet-era literary journals..

Since systematic collection of Soviet materials only began at UW–Madison in the late 1950s, the UW–Madison Libraries only hold partial runs in various formats (print, microfilm or electronic) of these major publications. When combined with existing holdings, the proposed digital archives would provide complete access to the full runs of each of these publications.

These publications are of wide interest to scholars and students of Russian literature, history, and social and cultural studies. These Russian-language periodicals provide a window into Soviet-era issues as portrayed by official or government approved Soviet publications.
