2026-2027 Research Security Training in Workday

UW–Madison PIs and senior/key personnel* are required to complete research security training (RST) in Workday within 12 months prior to proposal submission to a federal agency.  Additionally, any individuals hired to work on a federal award must complete research security training prior to commencing work on the project. RST must be assigned through the Research Security and Export Control Office (RSEC) office. Please contact RSEC at rsec@research.wisc.edu with the individual’s name, title, and home department to assign the training in Workday.

Once the training is assigned in Workday by RSEC staff, individuals can follow these steps to access the training and to verify completion:

  1. Log in to Workday
  2. Navigate to Learning in the “Personal” menu
  3. Navigate to “My Learning”
  4. Under “Links” click on “My Transcript”
  5. Search for “UWMSN Research Security Training”

Annual email reminders will be sent via Workday for individuals to complete the training. If you have questions about the training requirement or applicability, please contact RSEC at rsec@research.wisc.edu.

Thank you for helping to ensure compliance with this requirement and for your continued commitment to research integrity and security.

*Please note any sponsor and/or solicitation requirements that require RST for additional individuals (i.e. grad students, student hourlies, etc).

Research Security Training

Research Security Training (RST) is required for all designated individuals involved in federally funded research, including principal investigators, senior/key personnel, and others as applicable. Essentially, if an individual needs to provide Common Forms or needs to certify that they have completed RST, they must complete an RST module.

The training must be completed within 12 months prior to the submission of a federal proposal. Failure to complete the training may delay proposal submission. In addition, any newly designated covered individual added to an active federal award must complete the training prior to commencing work on the award. RST is also required to be taken annually.
