Gradual reopening of research on campus continues

Research continues to reopen on campus with a focus on expanding on-site research and scholarly activities while minimizing the risk of transmission of COVID-19 to our students, staff, faculty, and the larger Madison community.

Reopening testing plan announced

Testing is key to identifying infection and keeping it from spreading. UW will implement a three-part testing plan. Go to this link and click on "Reopening testing plan" to learn more.

COVID-19 positive or direct exposure protocol for UW–Madison research units and activities

The Smart Restart plan for the UW–Madison campus is under development and will be available soon. In the near term, this document was created to provide Chairs, Center Directors and other leaders of research units with a quick reference to use in cases of employee COVID-19 direct exposures or positive tests. PPE procurement message

To help departments and labs obtain face coverings and other personal protective equipment (PPE) that remain in short supply, UW-Madison has launched a new, centralized process for procurement and distribution of some commonly requested supplies for use as specified in our COVID-19 return to campus guidance.

Lonnie Berger to be associate vice chancellor in the social sciences

Berger replaces Nora Cate Schaeffer, professor of sociology, who has served in the interim role since August 2019. Schaeffer, who was associate chair of the sociology department from 1997 to 2001 and has been faculty director of the UW Survey Center since 2003, is retiring this summer.
