Welcome to the Research Resources Reporter

This new monthly newsletter from the Office of Campus Research Cores is designed to provide updates and information relevant to cores, research services, and shared facilities.  Contacts listed in the Directory of Resources for Researchers website are automatically added to the Reporter distribution list, and other interested persons can subscribe.  Suggestions, recommendations, and topic submissions are welcome.

Core Business Basics Flash Talks Event
Fri, Jan 12, 2018 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm in Orchard Room of WID (3rd floor)
Use the small elevator in Aldo’s Cafe to access the 3rd floor.Six core managers will deliver 5-min flash talks on basic business operations to share diverse approaches to operating a core or shared resource, including methods to track expenses, set rates, and develop budgets.  The group will encourage questions and exchange of ideas, concerns and solutions, with additional time after noon for informal or one-on-one discussions.
Please join us.  The reserved space should accommodate all interested attendees.

CYTO University offers many free online courses and webinars through ISAC (International Society for Advancement of Cytometry).  Webinar content covers many broad topics that apply across cores and shared facilities, not just those in cytometry or life sciences.  A webinar on rate setting is scheduled for Mon, Jan 15 at 11:00 am Central Time.  Registration is free.

Directory of Resources for Researchers website
Online searchable database for cores and shared resourcesThe Directory website now includes listings for 92 cores and shared facilities and details for more than 800 resources and services.  More than 4,000 unique users have visited the site since its launch in June 2017, with 30 – 300 users per typical weekday.  Top destinations during fall semester (Sept – Dec 2017) included the UWCCC Flow Cytometry Laboratory, the Small Molecule Screening Facility, and the Social Science Computing Cooperative.  Remember to periodically review the accuracy of listings and consider adding resources and services to improve search results.
