BadgerConnect Research Services Fair May 3
Bring a colleague this Thursday, May 3, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm in HSLC.
Program information and details for the 24 participating UW-Madison shared research services are on the 2018 BadgerConnect webpage.  Poster sessions and booths begin at 3:00 pm, workshops begin at 4:00 pm, and a food and networking reception begins at 5:30 pm.  Walk-ins are welcome.

Engaging Key Partners to Design and Conduct High Quality Clinical Research
This 1.5 day short course will focus on methods to gather information critical to the success of clinical research from potential participants, caregivers, clinicians, and other important stakeholders and is designed for investigators or research team members, including graduate students or research specialists.  Register by June 1.
Improving the Quality of Your Survey Research Data Collection
Tips from seasoned professionals of UW Survey Center on June 28, 2018
Survey Center Associate Director John Stevenson and Distinguished Scientist and Senior Survey Methodologist Dr. Jennifer Dykema will discuss the resources the center brings to campus, how to use these resources, and how to enhance your grant applications by adding their expertise.  At this session they will talk about what the Survey Center can add to your study by highlighting some best practices in new and prevailing survey research methods, how to develop instruments to collect high quality data, and more.This event will benefit investigators, scientists, and research staff. It will be geared toward survey research in the health sciences, but useful to any discipline that uses questionnaires to collect data.  This event is sponsored by the Community-Academic Partnerships Program.  No fee is charged but registration is required by June 14.

Welcome Cryo-EM Expert Elizabeth Wright
Dept of Biochemistry new faculty member and director of newly established cryo-EM facility
The UW–Madison Department of Biochemistry will welcome Elizabeth Wright in July 2018 as a faculty member and director of the newly established cryo-electron microscopy facility.  Wright is an expert in cryo-EM, a technique able to obtain atomic or near-atomic level resolution images of biological molecules by imaging with electrons that can help UW–Madison researchers make significant new contributions to many areas of structural biology, including enzymology, virology, cell biology, and medicine.  Read more
New Executive Director of Physical Plant Jay Bieszke
Experienced naval facilities manager to lead Physical Plant in FP&M
Jay Bieszke, who has 20 years of experience managing complex engineering, construction and facilities maintenance programs, has been selected as the new executive director of the Physical Plant in UW–Madison Facilities Planning and Management.  Bieszke worked most recently as chief of staff for the assistant secretary of the Navy for energy, installations and environment. He previously served as regional facilities director for the six Navy bases in the Washington, D.C., area, and Facilities Maintenance and Repair Program manager on the Navy’s Pentagon staff.  Read more
Changes to Shop@UW Final Cart
Goal is to provide transparent accounting for costs and discounts for MDS orders.
Beginning April 9th, Shop@UW orders include discounts deducted from the supplier catalog price followed by a new MDS Service Assessment.  Net pricing for research labs is expected to remain in line with past orders, but may vary depending on the mix of suppliers and products selected.  This change is required and supported by the UW’s federal disclosure statement and federal accounting standards. The Research Program Manager is a staff member of the Epidemiology of Developmental Disabilities, University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) work unit, at the Waisman Center. This position will serve as the research program and administrative manager for the Wisconsin Surveillance of Autism and other Developmental Disabilities System (WISADDS), a public health project that conducts population-based, multi-source surveillance of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and cerebral palsy (CP) among children in a 10-county area of southeastern Wisconsin. The Research Program Manager will provide leadership, program, staff and project management. Position title is Outreach Program Manager II, Academic Staff-Renewable, 100% FTE (Job No. 93689-AS).

Director of the Women and Gender Studies Consortium (closes May 7)
This position serves as the Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium in the UW System. The Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium directly serves students, faculty, staff, and administrators in all 13 University of Wisconsin Institutions. The Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium is committed to scholarship, teaching and activism that benefit all 13 University of Wisconsin Institutions and communities throughout the state.  Position title is Outreach Program Manager III, Academic Staff-Renewable, 50% FTE (Job No. 93883-AS).

Program Manager – WRAP Longitudinal Study (closes May 7)
This position will serve as the research manager for the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer’s Prevention (WRAP). WRAP a landmark longitudinal study with 1200 active participants, designed to identify Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) prior to symptoms and identify predictive biomarkers, health and lifestyle features that confer risk and resilience to AD. WRAP conducts a variety of tests including memory assessments, MRIs, PET scans, CSF collection and blood collection. This position does require some work schedule flexibility for after hour events and occasional travel to LaCrosse and Milwaukee.  Position title is Admin Program Specialist (SR/ASSOC), Academic Staff, 100% FTE (Job No. 93502-AS).Biotron Manager (closes May 8)
This position will direct the overall administrative and research operations of the University of Wisconsin Biotron. Chemist Supervisor (closes May 31)
This position is responsible for managing the Organic Chemistry Unit for the Wisconsin Occupational Health Laboratory (WOHL) in the Occupational Health Division (OHD) at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). Staff management responsibilities include: managing the daily work activities, directing employees, recruiting, facilitating staff training, evaluating employee performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. Other duties include: monitoring work flow and lab operations, approving/monitoring laboratory expenditures, consulting with internal and external colleagues regarding scientific and matters, reviewing and evaluating test reports.  Position title is Senior Chemist, Academic Staff, 100% FTE (Job No. 94385-AS).
